Be Like Minded
1 Peter 3:8:
"Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble."
As a young boy I loved going to Mensing's Barber and Gun Shop. Ken always had a pipe in his mouth, so his little shop was filled with the smell of fresh pipe tobacco, a scent which I still love to this today. There were always good hunting stories, pictures of deer, ducks and dogs and lots of playful banter. It was a place where boy's dreams were made.
Looking back, I realize that even though my interests have changed, my resources have grown, and my knowledge has increased, I still love to get together with other like minded people who share a similar love for hunting. We encourage each other, challenge each other, and spark each other's imagination with our experiences.
I've always loved hunting camps and camp fires... often as much as hunting itself. I also love making small still hunting drives or pushes. It has to do with the social aspect of the hunt.
In a similar way, on Sunday morning when sitting in church, I realize that even though I don't know everyone or what they are dealing with, we all share the same love, have the same focus, and we are of like mind.
Just last evening, Linda and I went to a worship gathering at church. It was a time to worshiping God together and enjoying the company of other of like mind.
Philippians 2:2-4: "Make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others".
If you want to grow closer to God, spend time in His word, time in prayer and time with those that are like minded in Him.
A prayer for Today:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us to be one body in Christ. Today I pray for my church to be like minded and remove any division that might exist. Help me to look out for the interests of others and fill me with Your Spirit. Bind us together, Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
