BE THE DECIDING FACTOR

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Capt. Hugh was having a bad morning.  His fisherman had been catching fish as fast as they could drop their lines, but two young boys on board were very seasick.  Hugh made the decision to pull up anchor and bring them to shore.  Just before they got to shore the boat rode up on a underwater shoal and became stuck.

As soon as they became stuck the captain told all 5 fisherman to put their life vests on... a good and timely decision.  Within seconds of getting their vests on two large waves came over the stern and filled the boat, tossing everyone out.  If it hadn't been for the decision to get their life vests on likely someone would have drown in the surf that morning.

Throughout our lives will be called on to make some hard decisions.  In the boat that day the captain made some bad decisions and some good decisions and we'll all do the same  in life.  At times in life we need to practice being the deciding factor to those around us, especially within our families.

Webster defines deciding as;
"critical, crucial, decisive, determining, influential, prime, principal, significant."

We each face a time in our lives where we decide to follow or not to follow Christ, its our choice to decide.  After that, Christ becomes our deciding factor.  When we come to a crossroads or a major decision the factor that needs to direct our decision making has to be Christ.  If we allow anything else to be at the forefront we will eventually fall into a sinful and dangerous situation.

As you move forward in life make sure that you are a factor to those around you.  But in your life, in your heart, make sure that Christ is your deciding factor.

In Psalms 32:8 tells us that God will be our deciding factor...
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you."
