BUILDING GODLY MEMORIES
Psalm 89:1
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations
I stood looking out on 30-40 people l, and it was then that I realized, more than ever before, that this was a family, as much as any family that I've had in life. We've been together for nearly 25 years and there are thousands of memories that have built one on another that confirm that these Quest Ministry and Two Hats Ranch hunts aren't as much about shooting deer as they are about family and family that loves and shares the good news of Jesus Christ.
A few years ago, one afternoon, we stopped by my mom's house to visit and wish her a happy birthday. I'm not sure how the conversation turned, but somewhere it did... and we started talking about my mom's eventual funeral. It was a strange thing to discuss but she asked if I would be willing and/or able to preform her funeral service for her. Since then I've had so many memories flooding my mind.
Early this morning we sang some old hymns and it brought back great memories from childhood. I have recently come to a realization of how much was instilled in my mind and heart as a child, instilled by what I was surrounded by.
I was blessed to be raised in a family where we heard strong Christian music played in the home and in the vehicles. Many of those same songs still resonate in my mind today.
Our world can so easily become filled by ungodly "stuff" that overshadows the godly influences that should be there. We don't realize that it is happening until it is almost too late at times. We accept things of this world too easily.
I've shared before about memories of coming into my mother's kitchen almost any day and hearing the songs from WRVM radio from Suring Wisconsin... Or the preaching of J Vernon McGee at midday in my dad's truck. These things stuck with me and at times fill my mind with words and thoughts of praise.
What are we leaving as a legacy in the hearts and minds of our children and grandchildren? What music, TV and radio programs will influence their memories in the future?
Fill your life and that of your family with godly things. Envelop yourself with a blanket woven by a love for Christ.
Those memories will last for generations to come and will instill memories that will keep us pointed toward Jesus Christ.
