Don't Settle For Good Enough
Isaiah 64:6
For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy rags; and all of us wither like a leaf, and our wrongdoings, like the wind, take us away.
It was a great day of hunting in 1986 in Illinois. Sam Townsend had been in the stand for a while and it was the best day of hunting in his life. There were bucks all around him and he was trying to get a shot on one of the biggest. He was just about ready to shoot a good buck when suddenly a buck of many lifetimes stepped out into the area. Same lost all interest in the bucks that had held his attention and immediately turned his attention to the bigger buck. In a just a matter of second Sam had a buck that is one of the biggest bucks ever taken in Illinois.
The first group of bucks were good bucks, maybe very good... but if Sam had taken one of those bucks, whole he might have been satisfied, no one in the whitetail hunting world would never have known his name. A friend if mine that speaks at a lot of churches has used a quote often, "Good is the enemy of great".
This saying is true in our lives as well. We can go along in life and settle for good... doing what seems right and even moral, we might look good to others, but in God's eyes, if we've not accepted the gift He's given, we are filthy. You see, God gave His Son, Jesus Christ so we can become perfectly clean in His eyes. Without Jesus, we are what they verse above says we are.
Are you settling for good in your life? Or are you striving for greatness through a relationship with Jesus Christ? Where is your heart. It doesn't matter how good we can be, we're never good enough on our own.
Don't settle for good, we'll never be good enough, allow God to make you great!
