EMBERS OF HOPE
Romans 8:24
For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?
I heard a statement recently that included the thought of "blowing on the embers of hope." This statement was in the context of holding out hope in the face of a dire situation. Their hope was a desire for a positive outcome. The dictionary defines hope as a wish for a particular event that one considers possible: to want something to happen or be true.
As Christians, the hope we have in Jesus is drastically different. The hope we have is not just a wish, it is a confident expectation based on faith. We have confidence and assurance in the promise of Jesus. Our hope is rooted in His resurrection, which secured victory over sin and death. Jesus has overcome the challenges of this world. Believers are assured eternal life through faith in Jesus. 1 John 5:13 tells us, "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life." Verse 14 goes on to say, "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us." The Bible also tells us that our hope is a living hope. " Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." (1 Peter 1:3}
Hope in Jesus is a force that provides peace, purpose, and assurance. We can have confidence that when we trust in His promises, we will find strength and hope to face all of life's challenges. Our hope in Jesus allows us to focus on eternal values rather than temporary circumstances. It is so comforting to have the assurance that our hope is not just a wish or want that something might happen. Our hope is an eternal hope that is based on the promises of Jesus and eternal life in his work on the cross and his victory over death. Praise the Lord!
