Psalm 13:1-2
How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? 2 How long am I to feel anxious in my soul, with grief in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me?
I dropped my friend, off to walk into the deer stand an hour before light. He had about a quarter mile to walk to get to the stand. I pointed a flashlight towards the first large reflector and explained that if he followed the reflectors they would bring him right to the stand. I also told him, if you don't see the next reflector, move forward a couple of steps and you should find your way.
My friend followed my directions nearly perfectly... until he got to the next to the last reflector. It was then that he lost his way, when he couldn't see the reflector in the small creek bottom below him. Instead of moving forward he walked up the creek and began wandering around, taking the wrong path that led him off in the wrong direction.
Just as my friend was questioning me and my guiding, King David was beginning to question his guide, the Lord Almighty. He questioned "How long Lord?". "How long?"
King David is in bad spot and he is questioning God. We all have times when we question if God is hearing us or if He even remembers us. We stand in place instead of moving forward on the path God has set before us or we drift off looking for a path that He didn't have for us.
Either way, if we would just have faith and move forward a few steps to see what amazing things God has ahead for us, we would see that our path is clear and all the "reflectors" that God promised are in place.
He knows your circumstances and the troubles you are facing and He has laid out the path for a successful journey through those obstacles that we fret over.
At the end of chapter 13 David writes,
"But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me."
He trusted that God had a plan and would see him through; David saw the trail markers ahead. Whatever you are.dealing with and fretting over, give it to God. Know that the next reflector to lead you to the place He wants you, is just ahead. Have faith and move forward until you see the path He has laid out for you.
