FINDING OUR WAY IN THE DARK
Psalm 116:8
"I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken."
A few days ago I was outside long before sunrise... its so dark that you couldn't see your proverbial, "hand in front of your face. It brought back memories of a day several years ago when I had to bring one hunter to the far SE corner of the ranch and there was no visible trail in the last ½ mile in the rolling hills. When I went through the last gate everything looked the same. The silhouette of the hills were barely visible and there was no depth perception so there was no way to tell where the drop offs and terrible dangers were.
I rarely get shook in the dark but I realized I could be in trouble. As I cautiously and slowly moved forward I began to pray, "Lord direct me in a safe direction to where I need to be". Then I remembered, I have ONX HUNT app on my phone. I realized that the stand was marked on the app and it showed me my current location. I watched the screen close and within a couple of minutes I was right where I was supposed to be. On the way I drive into the edge of a marsh and nearly buried the UTV... but the ONX app pulled me through.
In life, even for those that follow Christ closely, at times we charge forward into situations without stopping and asking the Lord for the directions we need. We can't see clearly our way to get through the tough situations on our own, yet we forget we've got the most powerful "App" available to mankind.
In Psalms 16:7 David writes, "I will bless the Lord who has counseled me". Our Lord is waiting for you and I to go to Him asking for direction. He gives us the direction we need and sometimes He allows to get into situations that we can only get through with His help.
When I asked for help yesterday morning I knew that I could flounder on my own and possibly make it... eventually, but I also knew that He knew the way and would answer my prayers. My prayers were answered when He reminded me that I had the App in my pocket. In the same way God has provided His Word for us.
In todays world we have amazing technology at our fingertips. We can struggle in the darkness, trying to find our way on our own, or we can look to His Word with the click of the keys on our phone. There is no excuse for lack of prayer and study of the Bible... and all the answers are right there for us.
The Lord is certainly willing to guide us through the hill s and valleys of decision-making. But we must pay attention to the instructions in His Word and to the leadings of His Spirit, who has been given us as our helper, teacher, and guide. Then we can boldly say with David, "I will bless the Lord who has counseled me".
