LEAVING CLEAR TRAILS
Psalm 71:18
So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.
Our snow is melting rapidly after a few last attempts to prolong our Michigan winter. My yard now shows all of the poor decisions I made in December when I said, "I'll get that cleaned up right after Christmas". Right after Christmas was too late as it was all buried in the snow that is now going away to reveal all that I meant to do.
In another week or two the snow will be mostly gone in the woods here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and we'll be out scouting for next year's hunting. Just as the snow melts in my yard revealing what I did (or didn't) do last fall, it also reveals where the deer were and weren't last fall as well. The trails from last fall will be easily seen as I walk in the woods. The rubs on trees and scrapes on the ground and shed antlers will be obvious for a short time before the trees and brush begin leafing out. It's a wonderful time to be in the woods to figure out what has been the patterns of the past.
As we go through life God puts others, generally others older than ourselves, that show us the good and bad things in life. We call them, mentors. These people have lived through the things that we will face in the future. They have built lives through experience. We need to align ourselves with the hearts of those that are experienced in a godly life, those that God has shown His way in this world. These men and women have the wisdom that God has given them through years of trials and victories. These are the signs set before us... Signs of wisdom and experience that God has used as guides and guide posts from one generation to the next.
As we get older, then we have a responsibility ourselves to pass that same God given wisdom to the next generations. God is preparing each of us to someday be a godly mentor to others. There are some that are in need of what God has instilled in you and I by what He has brought us too and through.
Bernard Kelvin Clive explains it this way,
"Mentorship is simply learning from the mistakes and mastery of a successful person..."
Proverbs 27:17 explains it in a physical way. We need each other to make us the best and sharpest we can be.
"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."
Leave clear trails so others that come behind us have a path that will lead them in a godly way.
The rest of life will take care of itself. It's not the journey, it's the destination
