PREPARED FOR PROTECTION
Psalms 91:4
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge, his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
It had been a beautiful evening hunt on Monday evening, sunny fairly warm and calm. When I left camp on Tuesday morning it was clear and calm a little chilly, but I had dressed for it. When it broken light the weather changed quickly. Low clouds rolled in and shortly afterwards the winds picked up and sleet started falling... I hadn't dressed for this.
Shortly after daylight I saw a big buck on a rim across from me as he moved towards me he disappeared into a small bedding thicket and never came out. I assumed that he was tending a doe was bedding with her. He couldn't come out without me seeing him... I wasn't going to leave until I got a shot.
The wind picked up and the sleet continued all morning. I began to shiver and soon I knew there was no way I could make the shot when he came out. Finally I had to leave as I was miserable and I feared hypothermia was setting in.
If I had prepared myself for the sit with a good base layer to wick away moisture, then layer of wool or fleece and then a wind and rain barrier I would have most likely have harvested that big buck.
In our spiritual life, scripture says protection comes from God. He is described as a shield, refuge, and fortress for those who put their trust in Him. In Psalms 91 we read that God will protect us from harm, deliver us from evil, and give us divine guidance. In Psalms 91:4 I can't help but see the image of the mother hen with her chicks gathered under her wings. Psalm 91:11 states that God "shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways,".
The scriptures tell us, to have this kind of protection we simply must put our faith and trust in God. If we allow Him to protect us we have no fear, He covers us in all things.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
