QUIT CARRYING THE EXTRA WEIGHT

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles; and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

One evening, as we sat around a campfire, one of my hunter told us a story of an elk hunt where he struggled all day. His energy seemed to be less than normal from the start. He was worn out from climbing and the weight of his backpack was almost too much to bare. At the end of a long strenuous day he sat down and when his pack hit the ground it made an audible clunk. Thinking it sounded strange, he opened the pockets to find about 10 pounds of rocks that his brother had jokingly put it in there.

It reminded me of how often we carry around so much extra weight in our lives. Like that backpack filled with extra "dead weight" that only wore the hunter down, the unnecessary burden of our past and our guilt, make our daily lives so hard.

So how do we drop all that extra weight? We lay it at the feet of Jesus. Take it off of your back, quit carrying those burdens that make it hard to be as productive we could be.

Allow God to carry it all.
