ONE BODY
Romans 12:4-5
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
On Lake Michigan I was fishing with a friend on his boat. We had gone about 5 miles out looking for some king salmon. After a couple of hours the winds picked up and the waves followed. We headed back towards the boat landing and soon we were fighting 6 foot waves in a 16 ft boat.
We tried to zigzag through the wave but eventually we had to turn directly into them. We were doing ok, but all at once we were hit with a big rouge wave which through me high into air. When I came done I landed on the corner of the deck, right on my tailbone. I was in terrible pain for the rest of the day... and for weeks to come.
We all deal with such pain in our physical bodies and as we grow older the injuries we had at a younger age come back to give us discomfort. And as we feel pain we deal with it... We don't ignore it hoping that it will go away. We don't throw a body part away because it is hurting.
The same needs to be true with the Christian family, we are a body. The hand cannot work without the arm, the shoulder, the neck etc... We need each other to survive and thrive. When you see a part of the body/family hurting rush to it and love it back to health. You wouldn't look down at your leg, seeing blood gushing out and think, "someone else will take care of that"... You would care for it. The same should be true with the body of Christ.
Desmond Tutu once wrote, "You don't choose your family, they are God's gift to you, as you are to them."
Treat each part of your Christian family as a precious gift from God. Care for it, love it and keep it healthy
