STAYING ON THE RIGHT PATH

James 1:6
When you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

One morning at few years back I was scouting a new piece of property that I had only seen quickly one time.  At daylight I took the ranger up a hill and through some pastures....  All the time "knowing" that I knew right where I was going.  I opened gates and closed them behind me again... over and over again.  I would drive out on a point until I was surrounded by drop-offs, turn around and open and close the gate again.

I could see where I wanted to be, but couldn't figure out how to get there.  I was very frustrated and eventually gave up and headed back down to the ranch.  After talking to the owner for a minute I mentioned my dilemma.... He said "oh, that's easy... go out the upper gate and go straight up the hill.  Follow the road up to the big hill and then down to the bottom"  my thoughts were, "That's easy" I had taken the wrong trail all along and it couldn't get me where I wanted to go.  By asking the owner I got put on the right path.

I thought I had listened carefully and paid attention to where we went two months ago when I was here.... But obviously I hadn't done too well.

So often we ask God for direction in life and we act as though we listened to His leading but we still go and do what we think is best as opposed to what God really wants for us.  Then when we can't find our way through the hard spots in life we eventually go back to the Owner of all things to get the answers to our questions.

So often we ask for God's guidance and we do what we know will benefit us... it might not be a sinful path that we take but we do it because it benefits me... not God.  We must always look to glorifying God through the directions we take.

Dr. Tony Evans once said,  "When you realize God's purpose for your life isn't just about you, He will use you in a mighty way."

When we have to make choices don't only ask God for directions... but seek His heart and pray that our movements will glorify Him not us.

Without God's true direction we will remain lost on the wrong path.  Allow Him to lead and we will remain on the right path.
