The Grand Design

Job 12: 7-9
But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?
This passage of scripture uses the natural world to argue that God's wisdom and design are evident in His creation. The meaning animals, birds, and fish all testify to God's hand and control, speaks to God's wisdom and authority being far beyond our comprehension.
This year my creek food plot is a brassicas plot consisting of beets, turnips, radishes and kale. An interesting thing about brassicas is, after a frost or hard freeze the plant's convert starches into sugars to act as a natural antifreeze, so by a grand design the plant survives even after freezing. Starch is a plant's stored food, kind of like our body fat is a future source of energy. At the same time these plants are turning the stored starch into sugars used to feed the plant. This is why vegetables like beets, carrots, kale, and parsnip are sweeter in late fall and winter.
From late October through November the brassicas plot becomes a deer magnet. It is rewarding to harvest a fat doe or a nice buck from the brassicas, but later when the dark and cold winter months arrive, it is again rewarding to look out our window and watch the deer devouring these plants and bulbs. We know it will help them survive the brutal temperatures and we know this will mean more healthy fawns come spring.
As I think about the apparent order and design of the brassicas, and the complexity of life itself, to me it is obvious evidence of an intelligent designer rather than random chance. When I think about the relationship between plants and animals, and the cyclical nature of life, it seems the evidence for an everlasting Creator who sustains life is undeniable. However, believing in God is a matter of faith.
Ecc 3:11
He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.
