The sun and the Son

Job 8:16  "He thrives before the sun,
And his shoots spread out over his garden."

Over the winter dead limbs and branches have fallen from trees onto our wooded trails, so today was trail clearing time. In June I will need to go through all the trails again and trim back lots of new trees, branches and plants like wild raspberries, gooseberries, and all  sorts of weeds. Anytime there is an open area like our trails, that gets extra sunlight, everything competes for it and soon there is a lot of new growth. In the dense wooded areas where the tall trees shade the ground from the sunlight, there is little or no new growth. As I was clearing the limbs, my mind couldn't help but make some spiritual comparisons.

The sun warms the earth and brings life, the Son warms dead spirits and brings life.

Ezekiel 36:26 "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart a flesh."

The sun helps things grow, the Son helps us grow spiritually.

Psalm 119:130 "The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple."

The sun gives energy; the Son gives energy to the weary soul.

Isaiah 40:31 "Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary."

The sun illuminates the sky; the Son illuminates our hearts.

John 8:12: "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"

Heavenly Father, Light of the World, sometimes I feel lost in the darkness of my circumstances. I ask that You shine Your light into the dark places of my life. Remove every shadow of fear and doubt that keeps me from walking in your light. In Jesus name, Amen.

Thank you, Joel Raygor
