What Good Can Come From Bad?
James 1: 2-3
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Not all my hunting stories have a big buck ending. Some do have success right out of the gate, while others include a long ride on the 'struggle bus' before there is meat to pack out, and then there are those hunts that end in total frustration and tag soup. Hunting just like the rest of life is made up of successes and failures.
The Bible is full of success and failure examples. But rather than viewing success by worldly standards, the scriptures present success as being obedient and putting trust in God. The scriptures also don't view failures as final, but as character-building stepping stones.
In the book of Exodus we read about the failures and successes of Moses. Moses started his life by committing murder and running into the wilderness as a failure and a fugitive. Yet, later in his life, God uses him to confront Pharaoh and lead the entire Israelite nation out of captivity.
The Bible is filled with many other stories that show hardship producing spiritual growth. The Scriptures teach us that trials and difficulties are not just obstacles to endure, but active tools God uses to build endurance, character and faith.
Romans 5:3–4
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
Today's prayer: "Dear God, Thank you for all the good times, the moments of joy, abundance, and laughter. Help me to always remember that every good and perfect gift comes from You. And in times of uncertainty and struggles, help me to put my trust in You. Remind me that You will never leave me and You are faithful. Thank You for your endless mercy and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen."
