Who’s Your Guide?

Isaiah 30:21 “Whether you turn to the right or the left, your ears
will hear a voice behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it.”
I think most of us know what a hunting or fishing guide does. The
dictionary states that a guide is one who shows the way by leading,
directing, or advising. A good guide is someone who can advance the
overall experience for their clients, leading to successful and
memorable outings. To do this, a guide must possess critical skills to
be effective. These skills include, knowledge and expertise, very
effective communication skills, planning and organization skills,
instructional skills, as well as physical fitness. Without these skills, the
guide may be ineffective and unable to add productive value to the
hunting or fishing experience. I heard someone the other day say that
“you can’t teach what you don’t know, and you can’t lead others if you
don’t live it yourself.” This statement definitely applies to guides.
For Christians, we have the ultimate guide. Psalm 37:5 tells us, Let
the LORD be your guide into the future. Trust in Him and he will help
you.” It is impossible for God to fail as your guide. If we submit to His
leadership and wisdom he will lead us in the right paths. Psalm 32:8
states, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I
will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” These verses all highlight
the importance of having God as your guide in life and seeking His
wisdom in all aspects of life. Are you listening to your guide?
