A WAY THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES

Isaiah 43:2-3(a)

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. 3 For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior...

Recently I watched a hunting show on TV. I couldn't tell you for sure who was on the show, but I've seen similar scenes on other shows over the years. A group of hunters were needing to cross a rushing & frigid mountain river that was flowing down from the high snow packed peaks above.

One hunter tied a rope around his waste and waded out into the dangerous current, with the help of walking sticks, struggles his way across, where he ties the rope off to a boulder. The rest of the party then use that rope to safely cross the dangerous waters.

This morning as I read today's verse, above, I saw something new. First God doesn't say "if we pass through the waters" of "if we walk through the fire". No He says "WHEN" we come to these obstacles, dangers and challenges. He knows that we come against these things in our lives.

Secondly, what I saw was God as the rope that crosses the river, a constant support and lifeline. We will face adversity, but we can count on our loving God to be there for us.

Though we may not come upon an actual river, we will likely encounter something this year that feels and looks like a dangerous rushing current or wall of fire and smoke. We can know that God saw the obstacle long before we did and He has a plan and a way for us before we get there.

We're leaving behind a challenging and sometimes frustration and maddening year. This morning we wake to new challenges, to a new and exciting future and for some a fear of the unknown. Remember this, God is already there ahead of us. He knows the rushing rivers we will have to cross and He has already stretched the rope across.

It may not be easy, but if we hold tight to Him and what He has prepared for us, it will be safe. We can ALWAYS count on Him. He is always there with us and for us, in good times and bad. He is our way through.
