A Steady Platform
Hebrews 12:2
"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Being a good rifle shot means that several fundamental things must come together. Basics fundamentals include breath control, trigger squeeze, sight alignment, and follow-through. Another key component is having a solid platform or shooting rest. Examples of effective rests include slings and shooting jackets, bi-pods, shooting sticks, backpacks, and even window and door frames. The idea is to remove as much human influence as possible.
Accurate shooting also requires a clear focus on the front sight or crosshairs. The human eye is only capable of focusing clearly on one object at a time.
Therefore, it is imperative that the front sight be in clear focus as the rear sight and the target are brought in alignment with the front sight. These three things in alignment and centered on the desired point on the target will usually result in a good shot.
This reminds me of the Christian and our walk in Christ. We must be grounded and have a solid foundation. A life that is grounded and supported by God's Word is essential to effective Christian living. We must also have a clear focus and be intentional in our spiritual walk. Christ and being more Christ-like each day must be our focus. Christ-centered life seeks to emulate the character and teachings of Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2 encourages believers to maintain a Christ-centered focus; "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
A foundation provides stability and security. In the same way, Christ offers believers a firm and unshakable foundation for their faith, ensuring that they remain steadfast amidst trials and tribulations. Friends, make Christ the foundation and focus of your life. Fix your eyes on Jesus. Rely on Him as your firm foundation.
