COME WITH ME TO A QUIET PLACE
Mark 6:31
"Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'"
Some that have followed my writings for a long time, may have noticed at once ar twice a year, you will read something about needing rest. Maybe it's been obvious, but I'm often writing to myself as much as my readers...
I've hunted and guided some amazing places. Mountains, oceans, rivers, the great lakes, the great planes and so many others. You would think that in all those places I would find time to spend a day or two to sit and rest, absorbing God's amazing creation in a quiet place. Looking back its unfortunate that it was rare that I ever took the time to just sit and rest. Yes, I might sit on a point overlooking a valley, for an hour or so. But I rarely just relaxed without someone needing my time. Even napping, when I'm in a new area, is difficult for me. I want to experience it all. I'm up early to watch the sunrise and up late to watch it set, but not long enough to enjoy a quiet rest.
Our bodies need a time to refresh, but more importantly our spiritual and our emotional lives need much the same thing as our physical lives do. When we don't allow time to rest and regroup from the stresses of life, we allow ourselves to become emotionally and spiritually fragile. We keep going at break-neck speeds, rarely slowing down long enough to be refreshed.
Mark 6:31 highlights the fact that even Jesus Himself found it important to get away for a while, to slow down and cease activity. The Bible records this event, "Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest'".
Jesus urged His disciples to get to a quiet place. In doing so they would find rest. Being alone with their Savior in a quiet place would restore their weary spirits.
In our fast-paced society, we rarely intentionally create a quiet place and spend time resting. As a result, stress works away, creating small fractures in our spirit that although barely visible, could cause us to shatter under the high-speed pressures of everyday life.
Let's purpose to take time to slow down, get away, and rest. To find solitude in a hushed place alone with our Savior, even if only for an hour or two or better yet for a day or two.. or sometimes a week or two.
If we make time to answer Jesus' call to go away with Him to a quiet place, we can stress-proof our spirits, making us emotionally and physically strong and ready to handle life. A few quiet moments or days spent with Him can help make us strong enough to fulfill God's assignments for us for a while.
Find the time and place and rest and refresh.
