God Of Wonders
Psalm 95:4-5
In whose hand are the depths of the earth, the peaks of the mountains are also His. 5 The sea is His, for it was He who made it, and His hands formed the dry land.
There are few places I would rather be than on the edge of an oak ridge above the Sturgeon River in the Southern Upper Peninsula of Michigan — to sit there and appreciate God's creation.
As I relax, I see trees of many different species and numerous ground cover plants and mosses at the base of the trees. There are repeating patterns, colors, shapes, and textures all around me. So far, that is just using your eyes. If you only use your ears, you'll hear a cardinal singing, a jay scolding, or maybe even the screech of an owl. Now, engage all five senses and you'll hear the rustling of leaves, smell the damp forest floor, feel the bark of the log, see the sun's rays casting shadows, and you'll sense life all around you.
Romans 1:20 tells us, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse".
The concept of God speaking to us in creation suggests that nature itself reveals God, His power, and His character. As we observe the heavens, the earth, and all living things, we see God's invisible qualities. Romans 1:20 states that, through creation, people can clearly see God, and His creation serves as a universal form of revelation.
Too often, people begin worshipping the creation instead of the Creator. It's easy to do when you appreciate all that God has given us to enjoy. Those that enjoy hunting, fishing, and God's great outdoors can easily fall for Satan's trap of forgetting the Creator while loving His creation. We are blessed with creation by the Creator and we have an amazing tool to share the Creator through His amazing creation.
Chris Tomlin's song, 'God Of Wonders', speaks to this very well:
Lord of all creation
Of water, earth and sky
The heavens are Your tabernacle
Glory to the Lord on High
God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy
Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth
Early in the morning
I will celebrate the light
And as I stumble through the darkness
I will call Your name by night
He is not just the Creator... He is the "Lord of heaven and earth."
