"HEARING" CLEARLY!
Psalms 119:18
Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
The last couple of morning I sat in an old deer blind that has a lot of loose windows and doors and when the wind blows it thumps, creaks, snaps and shakes. The stand sits on an old road bed in the middle of a swamp and the deer come out within a hundred yards of it.
I figured I was wasting my time as no deer would come anywhere close on those blustery days. I was shocked to see deer come out in the road and not even look my way. I was afraid to move because each time I did it made a new noise. The wind howled and the deer ignored the sounds. The more it happened the more I was convinced that the deer could hear the sounds but didn't pay any attention to it. I can relate...
I've been told that I can occasionally have selective hearing. That is to hear things with my ears but it doesn't register with my brain. In the same way, my wife Linda watches TV all the time and when I ask her what is happening she has no idea at all. Her ears are hearing, but her mind isnt.
I think that this verse is talking about this same thing.... But it is meaning your heart, not your brain. We might occasionally hear God but we don't listen to Him. He's always speaking to His children, but sometimes its just noise that we ignore and don't absorb into our heart.
I pray that I will always "hear" what God has to say and "see " what he is showing me... Like this old hymn from the 1920's
Open my eyes, that I may see
glimpses of truth thou hast for me.
Place in my hands the wonderful key
that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my eyes; illumine me,
Spirit divine!
I pray the same thing for both you and I. God is speaking to you, don't just hear... listen.
