WHERE'S YOUR TREASURE?
Matthew 6:19-21
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Earlier this year I had an old friend passed away. After retirement he had moved to his hunting camp; the one place that he loved to be. He was living miles off of a blacktop road where there were times when he could be snowed in for days. He loved it that way.
Tim gathered all the things around him that he loved. His cabin was filled with dozens and dozens of hunting firearms that he cherished. He had everything he had dreamed of there.
Then on day someone drove out to check on him and they found his cabin burned to the ground and Tim laying dead in the yard. When they dug through the ashes they found all of his guns and cherished belongings completely destroyed. There was nothing left.
Our grandson, has told Linda and I over and over again, when we talk about the value of something, he'll say, "what difference does it make? It's all going to burn in the end anyhow." Its true..
Everything we build for ourselves here on earth, if it's built for the kingdom of God, is built for earthly use and while it may have temporary value, it has zero eternal value. This past week the lottery was up to 1 billion dollars. Who doesn't like to dream about all you could do with 1 billion dollars... every dream fulfilled. But if its not for the kingdom of God, what real value is it anyhow? When we're gone it will be sold or given away.
So what kingdom are you building in to? What are your efforts going into?
Remember the words of verse 21... "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
