HE’S UNDEFEATED
I Timothy 6:17
“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;”
The gobbler I was looking at was far above me on an open Nebraska ridge. It was afternoon and we hadn’t seen or heard many turkeys that day, so we were going to spend some time on this gobbler. We were at a bad disadvantage, the gobbler no only was several hundred feet above us, he was across a large creek, he was with two hens and there were two barbed wire fences between himself and Jim and me.
When I was a new turkey hunter I had learned that there are a few things that gobblers rarely do. They are; they don’t come downhill to a call, they don’t leave hens, the don’t cross water and they don’t cross fences. With each of those things against us, it seemed chances were slim… but right then it was the only game in town. I let out a couple of excited calls and I watched the gobbler stand up straight and look down towards us. I called again and he gobbled… then he did the strangest thing. He jumped up and he sailed all the way to the creek bank at the bottom of the ridge. I called again, he gobbled again and jumped up and flew over the creek and both fences. Now he was downhill from us. I let out a couple soft call, he gobbler and Jim got his shotgun ready. In less than a minute that gobbler came out of the brush at 10 yards and Jim collected his first Merriams gobbler.
So many times in life we feel like everything is against us. The impossibilities of life seem to stack up so high that there is no way to overcome them. Like that gobbler, success appears to be nearly out of reach. It's times like these that we must lean hard into our Heavenly Father. He is the giver of all good things. Too often we give up when we get in these situations and it’s rarely that we remember to pray until we’re at a dead-end with no way to move forward. We need to keep in mind that we have a God that can be stopped by nothing.
He’s a God that’s undefeated.
