IS THERE ENOUGH EVIDENCE
Galatians 2:20
"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
We're at the midpoint of summer this week. Spring is just a memory and all the stores have switched over to "back to school" advertising. It's the time of year when hunters begin thinking about fall. Hunters begin driving around the local country roads with their binoculars looking for some big bucks. Trail cameras are going out and they will be looking for evidence of big bucks on the properties they hunt. Hunters love watching big bucks in the summer, because they can be pretty sure that they will be there come fall. The evidence is there.
Seven years ago this month I saw something I'll never forget. It was a family that showed evidence to something else. I was at the funeral for a young man of 34 yrs old. A father of several children, a brother, a son and a good Christian man. There were so many people that they had to have the funeral in a large school auditorium. During the service all 500 + stood to sing the old Hymn WONDERFUL GRACE OF JESUS. The mother and father sang at the top of their voices and lifted their hands in the air in praise and worship to their Savior. I couldn't sing, I was choked up by the example they were to all those behind them in that auditorium.
At the very end of the service the young man's father struggled under the grief to get up on stage and to the podium. Through painful tears he pled with all those there to make sure that they had a relationship with Jesus before they left that day.
Like a big buck that leaves evidence of where he is living on my trail cameras, these parents that had just lost their own son, made it clear who they are. More importantly, they left evidence that pointed all those that were there to Jesus. Not just their words but more importantly, the way they praised God for the true hope they have in Him.
I realized then that calling myself a follower of Christ means He must be on the throne of my life and that He is the One others must see... not me. Even if we never got the chance to verbally share a testimony of Christ's love with others, our actions can speak a lot louder than our words. Often what we do is more important than what we say, because words are cheap; they come a dime a dozen. The hard part is doing, but when we do for others, we are telling people about Christ without using words.
When people look at us, do they see Christ in us? Would there be any doubt of who you and I live for? I heard this simple saying a while ago and it made me consider my testimony. "If you were arrested for being a Christian, would they have enough evidence to convict you?"
John 13:35
"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Are we leaving evidence of what is most important in our lives... is that Jesus? If you were to die today, would there be any doubt to those at your funeral that you lived for Jesus Christ? Is there enough evidence?
