Prepare Your Work

Proverbs 24:27: "Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house".

Yesterday was the opening day of the Minnesota youth firearms deer season. A couple months ago I took my 15 year old grandson to the shooting range (sand pit) and dialed in his new Savage 220. We finally got it sighted out to 100 yards. Grandpa had rehearsed bullet placement, hunting the wind, scent control, the importance of noise and movement, etc. until  Roman  was probably tired of grandpa's teaching and preaching.

Yesterday, well before sunrise, we were in our blind watching the early morning woods come alive. To this old man it was beautiful, but by 10:00 am Roman was ready for a break, so we headed back to the house for a pancake breakfast with grandma.

At 2:45 in the afternoon we headed back out and once again sat still watching and listening to squirrels, turkeys, tweety birds, and even a raccoon, but not a deer. But then, about thirty minutes before sunset three doe walked into the soybean food plot, followed by a small buck. In the next instant a heavy bodied buck stepped into the beans at about 90 yards and slowly started heading our direction. "Roman, carefully raise your gun, but don't take the safety off. Not yet." At about 70 yards the big buck turned broadside and started slightly quartering away and then he stopped. "Roman, take the safety off and put the crosshairs right behind the shoulder where we talked about. When you are ready, squeeze the trigger".  Boom... the buck  lurched forward  and piled up. Big buck down!

Similar to preparing for this hunt, Proverbs instructs us to prepare for what might show up today, tomorrow, or next year. Solid preparation will help us reach our goals, take us through the storms and trials of life, and give us the hope and  future God wants for us.

Jeremiah 29:11  "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future"
