STARTING ON THE LEVEL
1 Corinthians 3:10
According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
Eight years ago this week we broke ground on our Bunkhouse on our property. We have guests at our home about half of the year and while we love having people here, our home just wasn't big enough to hold all of the hunters in the spring and fall. We also then have all those that just stop in to visit for a few days the rest of the year... so we decided to build a place for our friends and family to stay.
After some excavation we began setting the forms for the foundation and floor. We started a couple days early because of the hard, terribly rocky ground. We were struggling to get stakes pounded in and getting the forms level. We had then just about complete and we checked to make sure they were square... just to find they were not and we started all over again. This was no small thing as the floor was 30x60 feet. Eventually after several frustrating days we had the forms set, the plumbing in the ground and concrete poured... and all was level and square.
It's like life, if we cut corners early we pay for it in later. If the foundation isn't level and square the walls won't fit and the whole building is off. Things just don't come together.
God has laid out a perfect plan for our lives. The foundation is true, square and level. Jesus is what our "house" needs to be built upon... Anything less will leave us in a mess as we continue to try to build. A house built on a bad foundation will never stand.
If we consider that our entire life is like building a house we can see that each day we have the opportunity to add a little bit to the house.
What our life is today is what we have built up to this point. What we do today and tomorrow will show up in the future. Build it well.
Start with a firm, level foundation and build it with strong biblical truths.
