Stuck in the miry clay

Psalm 40:1-2
"I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction,  out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.

I recall many years ago duck hunting a marshy area where there was a lot of wild cranberry. The bottom of the marsh was extremely soft and mucky. I shot a duck and it fell behind the boat into the wild cranberries. I got out of the boat and attempted to wade to retrieve the duck. The farther I got from the boat, the deeper I sank into the bottom of the marsh. I finally got to a point that I was stuck and couldn't move. As hard as I tried, I wasn't going to get out on my own. All I could do was cry out to my hunting partners to pole the boat over to me and help pull me out. I needed rescue.

This reminds me of what King David wrote in Psalm 40: 1-2. David said, "I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me

and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction,  out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.

In our lost condition, we are in the pit of destruction and mired down in the bog. We cannot help ourselves from this situation. David is describing in this psalm his past hopeless and helpless condition. God by his grace had taken him from no footing, to sure footing. If we cry on the Lord, he will save us. He will incline his ear to us and hear our cries.

Are you stuck in the miry clay and need rescue? Call on Jesus to save you and he will lift you up and set your feet on solid ground.
