SURE COULD USE A LITTLE GOOD NEWS

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

My cell phone "dinged" and a message from my wife popped up with just "BBD" (meaning she had harvested a buck).  I knew that Linda was pickier than most everyone else out there and if she would send a message of "BBD" (meaning BIG BUCK DOWN) It was going to truly be a big buck... and it was.

As a guide I've always work hard to get my hunters into a position to harvest the best animals possible.  I do all that I can to make it happen.  There are hunts where everything goes right and it is one joyful day after another.   But there are some hunts where nothing seems to go right.  No matter  how hard I try I can't produce the kind of results that I want.  So a text of "BBD" is welcome news.  In life we all could use a little good news each and every day.

Our news media makes their money by printing or televising sensational news.  The headlines are meant to grab us and draw us in. Generally bad news sells more advertising for networks... so they use as much as possible.   For instance,  remember back during covid... these were some of the headlines read...
• Province in China Prepares Thousands of Hospital Beds Amid New Wave of Infections
• Canada CCP Virus Toll Rises, Officials Probe Seniors' Home Deaths
• America should be ready for 18 months of shutdowns in 'long, hard road' ahead

As we were locked down and unable to get out, many of us had watched too much news and to be honest... it was quite depressing. We wondered, "can it be as bad as it seems?" Even what was supposed to be "good news" was not good at all.  We were told some mornings that the death toll in one city dropped from 500 to 400.  I guess that's "good news"... in a sad sort of way I guess it was.

And now today, the news (mostly the main stream media) tells us of how bad everything is.  We're headed into a recession, or worse a depression.  Our nation is falling apart.  Our president is destroying our country...  we sure could use a little good news.

Anne Murray sang a song back in 1983 that sums up our world today.  She sings of watching the news and reading the paper and getting nothing but bad news.  She begs for something different and says, "We sure could use a little good news today".  We're in that same boat now.

There is good news.  John 3:16 tells us that God loves us through it all.  He loves us enough that He was willing to send His own Son to die a miserable death to give us life.

We've been bombarded with bad news for years now... none of this surprises God, He knows what is coming.  He has a plan in place.  Nothing happens without His knowledge,  but when sin arrived it changed everything.  God still has a plan that will not be stopped.  His plan is to give every one of us an opportunity to live forever in heaven, beyond this life here on earth and to live it in a perfect heaven.

A dozen years ago my dad passed away.  It was a sad time for our family.  Dad trusted in Jesus and what He did on the cross and rising again... It was a sad situation, but at the same time it was a joyous event to know that He is in heaven right now and for those that have trusted in Jesus and what He did for us, we will see our family and  friends again soon.

We all will die someday.   If one thing  doesn't get us something else will.  It might be today or tomorrow,  or it might be 20, 30 or 50 years from now... but we will die.  There is good news even in that. If we are prepared, we will join our God in heaven for all eternity. A heaven with no sickness and death.

The bad news that is coming at us, day in and day out shouldn't get us down.  We can have a savior that can lift us above the depressing news.  John 16:33 shows us that we need not worry about what is happening around us today.
"These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

There is great news amongst this world's mess.  Trust Jesus, believe that the celebration that we just celebrated this past weekend was what He did just for you.  Make Him the Lord of your life. He has overcome this world and so will we, when we believe.  That's the good news we need to hear today.
