WATCH YOUR STEP
Proverbs 5:8-9
Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house, Otherwise you will give your vigor to others, and your years to the cruel one;
For four days we were walking slowly between the palmettos and prickly pear cactus, sometimes on our tiptoes. The first day of the hunt we talked to the ranch owner about the rattle snakes. We had heard that the area was well known for huge rattlesnakes and we were 0K, but was a little concerned. The rancher told us we should be, as long as we wore our snake boots or chaps... then he looked down and saw that we weren't wearing either. With a serious look, he looked us in the eye and said, "just be really careful." Then he said, "please remove any poisonous snakes you come across."
With that advise we had done everything we could to avoid the places that rattlesnakes might be laying in wait for someone.
On the fourth evening of the hunt, on our way back in from the evening hunt, we came across a very large rattle stake crossing the road. Even though he was in the middle of a gravel road we still kept our distance. We stopped short and did as the ranch requested, we removed the problem... but from a distance.
The author of the book of Proverbs makes it clear that we must always stay alert and away from sinful situations. It's amazing how much time and space the author spends in Proverbs chapters 5-7 in trying to warn men of the dangers of going astray after an immoral woman.
It's so important for men to listen to these words, but life is full of all kinds of sinful situation for all men women and children to avoid. We must be overly cautious of any place that satan is waiting to spring on us.
1 Peter 5:8 warns us of Satan's schemes;
"Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8)
Like hunting in rattlesnake country we need always to avoid anyplace that there might be trouble. Watch your step.
