WHAT ARE YOU TRUSTING IN?

1 Timothy 6:17
Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.

Bob had shown up at camp many years ago to help remove some does from our leases. The farms we hunted were overrun with deer and the herd was far from healthy. The buck to doe ratio was poor and the population issue had the deer in poor shape… but Bob was going to help us out.

Bob had hunted all over the world and loved to shoot; he had the best gear that money could buy. His binoculars and scope were worth about 50% of what my first house cost, so there should have been no mistaking a doe from a buck.

After 3 days, Bob called it quits after removing 4 young bucks from the herd instead of the does. Even with relying on thousands of dollars of optics to tell a male from a female deer, mistakes were made.

The scripture above tells us that we should not put our trust in our riches. Now, many of us don’t have a lot of riches. Even without many riches, we too often put our trust in the things we have for our comfort and existence. We need to realize that the things of this earth are temporary and can be taken away in a moment's time.

I would guess that none of us can remember the crash of the stock market that caused the great depression… but we’ve learned about it. Thousands of individuals were living high on their “riches”. They felt secure in their wealth. But overnight their wealth was gone, and many took their lives because that was where they built their security.

Jesus warns in Matthew 6:19-20: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.”

What is it that you are trusting in?
