Be strong and courageous...

Joshua 1:9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Linda and I were very young in our marriage and we were in a cheap date..  we were at a local dump to watch the bears that would come in and feed in the food scraps.   As we stood on the bank of the pit several bears walked around us and one was in the pit right in front of us.  That bear suddenly made a move towards us and came up the bank.  I kiddingly moved Linda in front of me and told her to protect us.

When the bear came out of pit Linda went stiff and the bear sat right in front of her toes.  He sat down and looked up into her eyes, his teeth showing and snot running from his nose.   I really didn't mean for Linda to protect me, but in the end she stood strong and didn't waiver.

The Scriptures above give us great promises with a command. In  the verses leading up to verse 9 the writer instructs several times to be "strong and courageous" and to read and follow God's word.

We know that trouble is coming in life.  We are told that when we come to Christ things will be hard and the world will hate us... But there are a lot of promises that go with that...

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.". John 16:33

So, read and follow God's word, be strong and courageous, take heart...  And know that God goes before you and HE has already overcome this world on our behalf.
