HE'S SPEAKING... ARE YOU LISTENING?

Deuteronomy 28:2
And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you heed the voice of the Lord your God.

One evening, several years ago in the Southern Colorado Rockies, I was sitting high on a ridge waiting for dark.  I was going to pick up my brother coming off the mountain.  I was without a radio to hear when he was down.  I was sitting glassing some elk when all of a sudden from the valley below, I heard a voice yell out "Hey Dean".  It easy so clear that I had no doubt that it had been my brother in need.   I jumped up and yelled back, 'what".  No response.  I whistled, no response.  So I drove the Ranger to the valley floor to find no one waiting.  There was no one for 5 miles around.

I have no idea what I heard that night on the quite mountain...  It evidently wasn't human.  It made me wonder, can God speak to us in an audible voice?  He's God and He can do anything.  I don't think that God called to me that night, if He did, I'm not sure yet what He wanted.

But God does speak to us all the time.  He speaks to us through His word, through other people that care enough about us to point out things in our lives, through His creation and many other ways.  If He's speaking (and He is), our job is to listen to His voice and respond.

In 1st Samuel chapter 3 we read of Samuel hearing God call to him...  Samuel's response was what our response needs to be... Verse 10, Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."

Are we, "His servants" listening as Samuel did?

Everything that happens in our lives, great or small, is an opportunity in which God speaks to us, and the true grasping  of these messages is to honestly hear God, and then respond.

Are you listening?
