"Living water"
Psalm 104:10
He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.
On a trip this past week a friend told me of a hunting lease he was on in the "hill country" of Texas. When he got on the lease it was full of game, especially deer were extremely plentiful. He and his family loved hunting there and enjoyed it for several years. Then one year things began to dry up. It didn't rain much at all. The next year the same thing and then the following year. After 3 or 4 years there was no game left on this hunting lease and they dropped that lease.
After some exploration they learned that the landowner upstream from their lease had build several ponds one the creek that had carried water to them. Their water had dried up.
The animals needed water to survive and this ranch didn't have any standing or running water anymore. The deer, turkeys, hogs and other species had to leave to search out other properties, or die. Eventually no game was being seen as everything had either left the property or died.
Psalm 104:6-16 speaks of God's awesome provision of water. He spoke and the waters listened. Every life on earth is dependent on earthly water to survive... And the Lord provides it in his timing.
Christ came as "Living Water". Our souls can not "survive" without this living water. Once we've trusted Christ to be our source of life, then God's word becomes our "water" and "food" to continue to keep us growing.
I remember an old hymn from my childhood that spoke of the living water that Christ supplies...
"SPRINGS OF LIVING WATER "
I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame,
And nothing satisfying there I found;
But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came,
Where springs of living water did abound.
Drinking at the springs of living water,
Happy now am I, my soul they satisfy;
Drinking at the springs of living water,
O wonderful and bountiful supply.
Without water and food we eventually weaken and die... Daily food and water is required. Don't let your spiritual life go dormant, feed and water it daily with the "LIVING WATER" of God's word and with prayer.
Continually be "Drinking from the springs of living water"
