RIGHT WHERE WE LEFT HIM
Jeremiah 29:13-14
"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back from captivity...
Right before dark I got a shot at a deer with my bow. The deer ran down off the ridge to a valley I had never hunted. After dark my brother, my dad and I gathered and took up the blood trail. The deer went further than we had anticipated and we were soon in a place that only my dad knew. He had grown up hunting this area and knew it very well. When we finally found the deer we were a ways from where we had left the truck. My dad turned to me and my brother and asked, "where is the truck from here?" Dave and I both pointed up the hill to the southeast. My dad said, "ok, let's go" and we headed off. I was sure we were on the right track as I knew dad wouldn't have allowed us to drag off in the wrong direction in the dark
Thankfully, God has blessed me and my brother Dave with a good sense of direction. We drug that deer for about a half hour and soon I saw my flashlight reflect off of the windshield of my truck... right where we left it.
During the darkest days and nights of our lives there are times when God feels so far away; like we will never fInd Him. Times of no hope in our small minds. Think about the times when you struggled the most emotionally in your life. It felt like God wasn't there... But it wasn't God that moved, He was always "right where we left Hom." Even King David, "a man after God's own heart," had these feelings. But David knew that no matter where he went, God was with him.
Psalm 39:7
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
Not many have struggled as David did with sorrow (much if it self inflicted). He went through terrible times of discouragement. But he also always came back to God, because he knew that no matter where he was God was right there alongside him.
No matter what you are facing today, or will face tomorrow, you can rest assured that God is with you. He is right there. It doesn't matter how far we run from Him or feel separated, the verses above assure us of that, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.". These are promises to His children, those that have sought Him out and accepted His close relationship. No mater where we've gone, or how far we've traveled away from God we can know that He is always there, "right where we left Him." He hadn't gone anywhere.
Just prior to the verses above there is a terrific reminder of God not only being close, but also, having plans for our benefit.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)
We have an awesome God that is ALWAYS there. Even when we've walked away for a period we can rest assured, He is always "right where we left Him".
