THE HEAVENS DECLARE HIS GLORY - by Joni Lakes
Psalms 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands.
I will never be bored with the beauty of our God's creation. He breathed the stars and planets into existence. Think about that for a minute. God BREATHED the beautiful heavens we see with our naked eye, or telescope, into existence. God had a plan, and he made it into reality exactly as He thought it.
There is something about sitting in nature and using all of our senses He blessed us with. Listening to the glorious music of the birds, frogs, coyotes and any other wildlife that may sound off, feeling the cool morning temperature, or the heat of midday, smelling the fragrances of the woods, or the flowers, tasting the fresh morning rain, and seeing the beauty of the heavens, the twinkling stars, the bright lightening in a storm, or just the calmness in the night. From the picture I've included from Rushing Wind Retreat in Ontario, Canada, we could literally see the calming dance of the norther lights. Todd and I had never seen northern lights, but it was always on our bucket list. During one of our trips to Rushing Wind, after a long day as we sat with our cabin mates talking about the things God has done and is doing in our lives, and winding down before we crawled into bed for the restful night that the Retreat Center gives you, there was an urgent knock on the door and someone proclaiming to "COME OUTSIDE. THE NORTHERN LIGHTS ARE OUT". It was a brisk May evening and when we went out the door the heavens had burst into a palate of purples, greens, and pinks coming from the vast blackness of the night sky. These lights literally danced across the sky. They morphed into different shapes and waves; sometimes even creating a picture of something maybe God was showing us. The excitement from the campers who witnessed this was palpable. God put on quite a show that night.
This verse from Psalms 19:1 spoke directly to us that night as God declared His glory and the expanse proclaimed the work of His hands. God showed off that chilly night in May. We all knew that no other god could or would reward His children with this kind of show.
Today, remember, the same God who created the beauty of his heavens, also created you and I in His perfect image. We really do have a glorious God who loves us exponentially. Live in this today.
